August 1st, 2009Engagements, propose in las vegasMichael had a great proposal idea in Las Vegas… he set it up so he could propose at Lake Las Vegas! Jeremy was there to capture the moment in pictures. Esther was completely surprised, since he arranged it with her friends to take her “to a party”. Of course when she got there, she found something different!
I really wish I could post about 30 photos from this wedding marriage proposal but I had to cut it down to 13. Michael wanted Jeremy to be out-0f-sight the entire time so these are almost like “spy photos”. They were taken through a window using our zoom lens, from about 100 feet away.
Isn’t there supposed to be a party here?!? And what’s this little bride figurine?
The card asked her to sit down…
…then to stand back up, at which point Michael appeared.
I am sure this moment is the exact moment she finally figured it out, as Michael starts going down to one knee…
The entire time, Esther never looked down at the ring… here’s her first good look at it!
Now the emotion comes out, I think it finally hit her, and she finally said “yes!”
And of course we had to do one posed shot of the ring!
Congratulations to Michael and Esther, they are now planning a wedding for early 2010. We’d love to be able to work with this great couple for their wedding!

June 18th, 2009Weddings, las vegas wedding photographyYou may remember Jesse and Katy from their Engagement Session back in February. Well, their wedding FINALLY came! Katy was a radiant bride, so happy! Jesse was handsome as ever!
The wedding ceremony was at Lakeside Weddings which has an in-house photographer so my shooting during the ceremony was somewhat limited - but I think we got some nice shots.
This one is processed very “warm” to match the mood:
Ring exchange…
Awww, the first kiss!!
We had a little, but not much, post-wedding time (like less than 5 minutes), here’s a couple…
And one with Jesse’s son…
Isn’t he adorable?!?!
At the limo before leaving for the reception…
The reception was at a private residence. Jeremy and I were able to get a bunch of group/family photos and we also took a tour of the grounds with Jesse and Katy (thanks to all their guests for their patience!). A few of my faves:
Processing is a bit over-the-top but you may remember that Katy likes creative processing.. this one has a split-tone, with some extra contrast added, and a bump in the black-level and a warming filter.
And finally, Katy’s parents make an appearance in one of my long-time standby photos… this one doesn’t always “work”, but it did here!
Hope you enjoyed this sample from Jesse and Katy’s Las Vegas wedding photos! Katy, just so you know, we DO have some selective-color stuff for you that we are working on… and there’s over 700 more photos for you to see soon!

May 20th, 2009WeddingsJohn and Christina were married at the Platinum Hotel in Las Vegas. This is a GREAT location, just off the strip. The hotel is SO nice, and there’s an awesome patio on the top floor.
John and Christina are SO cool, so laid back, and SOOOO fun! Here’s a selection of some of my favorites - and it was hard to choose just 11…
One thing to mention - for some reason when I am in the Platinum I feel like it should be in a movie… so for this shoot I used a “film grain/film contrast” type processing on many of the photos. The process makes the photos look a little like they are from a movie camera - highly saturated, deep contrast, and not crystal-clear (a bit of grain).
Virgil was my 2nd shooter for this wedding, this is one of his:
Caught ya!
Almost every shot during the ceremony was using “available light” (no flash). The Misora room has floor-to-ceiling windows and the lighting can be amazing!
Caught the Best Man “hiding” the ring during the ceremony.
Now for after the ceremony - having some fun…
This one is not posed, just saw and clicked!
This one was posed, and there’s a bunch from this series that I purposely didn’t blog… but Christina, they came out awesome! I can’t wait to get the rest of your photos finished!
Ok, bonus shots from before the wedding… Christina is amazingly beautiful!
I am so tempted to make a 2nd blog post from this wedding, I didn’t even get to post any “fun” party shots… this wedding was a blast!

April 5th, 2009BraggingThis Las Vegas Wedding Photographer is off to Yosemite for a couple days. Can’t wait! The Ansel Adams Gallery is there and I think Jeremy and I are going to take a clinic on Landscape and Wildlife Photography. We aren’t landscape photographers so it will be an interesting change-of-pace. We’ll probably post a few photos when we get back!

April 3rd, 2009EngagementsJoey and Alicia are getting married at Silverstone Golf Club (we actually recommended them to check it out and they LOVE it) so we figured an Engagement Session there would be in order. Jeremy and I did this shoot, collaborating on the poses and Jeremy did most of the shooting while I was the “lighting technician” (read: lugging the big off-camera strobe around the golf course).
Usually the groom is “along for the ride” but Joey was really into this. I think part of it was his excitement of getting nice photos of his beautiful fiancee, but he was genuinely excited to be involved. That is GREAT and really shows his love and committment to Alicia.
Of course it could also just be “the way it is” with Joey, Alicia and their family… because when they came to proof their photos, they had an entourage of people including moms and aunts and grandmas! That was nerve-wracking but really fun to see the various reactions when we showed a photo.
So anyway, poor Joey and Alicia, it was very bright and we not only brought our big flash but also a reflector to help with fill light. They probably felt like they were part of a movie production or something…
Silverstone has this sschuuhweet arch at the front entrance. Very dramatic! They call it “Mediterranean Style”, so we did this Michelangelo-ish pose under the arch (shout out to P.G. for that term!). And FYI, the sky is un-touched other than saturation and contrast (the clouds really are in that cross-hatch pattern!)
With the cool clouds that day, we wanted to use them as a backdrop as much as possible. We just love the sky, the wall, and the fun “come hither big boy” type pose that Alicia had.
This was a practice shot (working on settings) and it just happened to be a great expression and perfect “glow” lighting…
This one was processed very “warm” to bring out the red highlights in Alicia’s hair to match Joe’s red hair…
Here’s one of Alicia’s “glamour shots”. The neat thing about Silverstone is there’s lots of interesting locations in a small area…this area has some slightly industrial-looking concrete stairs.
Here’s another “awwwww…..”
Time to goof off a little - we had plenty of the “posed” stuff…
Here’s a bit of an optical illusion - you’d think they were in some sort of meadow or field, wouldn’t you? Well they weren’t… and how we did that will remain our little secret
(but there’s no photoshop involved)They couldn’t hide from our big telephoto lens!
Our style is usually “soft/glowy and clear/clean” but we pushed our boundaries a little bit… the shot really needed a “spy” look, some distortion, blur, and “noise” added
Last one of the blog, by now it was almost dark and there were lots more clouds. Oh, and now we figured out why Joey liked this photo shoot so much! He got to kiss his beautiful fiancee A LOT! (watch your hands, young man!)
We were so happy that Joey and Alicia and their “entourage” liked our work. We knew that different processing styles are liked/disliked by different people - and of course mom and grandma didn’t like some of the shots that Alicia and Joey liked (and vice-versa) - but that’s why we always do varied processing on our photos AND give the “original” version on the disc, too!
