November 19th, 2008EngagementsWe had amazing weather and beautiful bright blue skies for this shoot; yes I know there’s been 3 blog posts from Red Rock Canyon but I promise to show you all something different in this blog!
I have to say Danny and Kellie were great, it was fun listening to Danny give Kellie a hard time about snakes and other critters that could be running around. Kellie is absolutely beautiful, and so easy to photograph - and Danny is handsome and fun so the two of them were a joy to work with.
Kellie and her mom came into the office today and it was obvious that they loved almost every photo, but an interesting thing happened… we got a little “crazy” with some of the special processing to a few of the photos, knowing that some people would LOVE the processing, and others wouldn’t like it at all. What was interesting is that Kellie loved (or at least thought it was cool) the processing, but mom not-so-much. Mom did like the black-and-white conversions but not the crazy stuff. That’s OK, special processing very much depends on personal taste and some of the processing was pretty extreme!
So, we got thinking and decided to do something different on this blog - post 2 versions of each photo! One almost un-processed, and one with the processing. We always provide both versions to our clients anyway, but I thought it would be interesting to show my blog readers some of the different processing that is POSSIBLE. I know not all will like it, but at least you can see what is possible!
This first one, both Kellie and mom loved. This is almost completely “raw” out of the camera, other than a crop:
Now, simple processing, a nice contrasty black-and-white…
For this second one, this is where we got a little crazy. the full-color shot was nice, but the lighting just BEGGED for black-and-white so we did a lower-contrast B/W conversion and added a little of my trademark “glow” - for the rest of these, you’ll want to click on the photo for the larger version:
The wild processing is a “surreal, edgy” effect; of course I’ll give credit where credit is due, this came from Matt Kloskowski’s Killer Tips and we’ve been using a few of his processes lately. We took his preset but then turned down the exposure and softened it up a little bit, the effect is like-it-or-hate it…
Here’s the 3rd one… really a pretty basic photo here but we felt it would work very well with a slightly different (and more pronounced) “edgy” effect from the same preset family.. the original:
And the very extreme processed version, it kind of reminds me of a drawing more than a photo - almost a modern-day Saturday Evening Post type look?
And finally, just a finished version here, I got a few really nice silhouette photos, this one is my favorite:
I hope this blog post wasn’t too technical (or boring) for the non-photographers that are reading!
I am looking forward to shooting Danny and Kellie’s wedding in February, we’ll have 2 photographers covering all the formal times (and the getting ready times) so I expect to have some great shots!
Good luck guys!

October 18th, 2008Engagements, Flash MontagesWell, I’ve finally gotten into the 2000’s and am able to create Flash presentations of my Las Vegas Wedding Photography!
I did a few of them for my previous clients at no charge as samples, and this will be a very inexpensive option for my brides and grooms in the future!
Here’s one I did for Christina and Jeremiah
And another one I did for Aaron and Sarah

October 18th, 2008SportsI hope you don’t mind the quick departure from Las Vegas Wedding Photography; please indulge me for a moment.
Remember a month or so ago I mentioned that we like to get out and “Challenge” ourselves with shoots of things other than people? Well, last weekend we took our Subaru out to Red Rock (inspired after shooting Christina and Jeremy’s Mustang).
Jeremy has been shooting automotive and motorsports on-and-off for 20 years so he took the lead in this shoot. Sorry for the watermarks, we typically don’t watermark our images but unfortunately the automotive-photo industry is a lot different than the wedding industry…
Our 14-year-old son clicked the shutter on this one, after we set all the settings for him. I think he’s a pro photographer in the making!
So, how can I relate this to Las Vegas Wedding Photography? Well, how about this… if you are a “car person” and want portraits with your car, or just portraits of your car, then give me a call!

October 3rd, 2008EngagementsIt had been a while since we’ve been to Red Rock for an Engagement Session, so we were very excited when Christina and Jeremiah decided to go out there. And we weren’t disappointed! Nothing beats an attractive, fun couple in a beautiful location!
As we do in many of our Engagement Sessions, I do most of the posing and composing of the shots, but Jeremy (my Jeremy) actually shoots. So, consider this a collaborative effort!
For my regular readers, you’ll know that I get “bored” at posting the same types of photos with the same processing and web-frames, so I changed it up a bit for this blog post…
We met at the Spring Mountain Ranch State Park where we were promptly (and rudely) kicked out (who would think you need a $50 permit to shoot photos in a STATE PARK?!?) Well we got a few quick ones in, here’s one…
Once we got out of there and to Red Rock Canyon, of course we had to get the standard heads-together shot:
We were really torn about the processing on several of the shots - Christina and Jeremy are laid-back, jeans-and-black-shirt type people which would lend to “vintage” type processing… but Red Rock has such beautiful colors we hated to wash them out. This one worked, though:
This one was taken with my big long zoom lens from a distance away, so they could be a little more relaxed than with a camera in their faces! This one is also processed “vintage” but not quite as strongly as the one above:
ZOOOOMMM!
Jeremiah (Christina’s Jeremiah) had a sweet Mustang so we included it in several photos, this was one of their faves:
It was getting pretty dark down in this valley so we had to do quite a bit of post-processing to get the sky back to a nice blue, we thought this was a very fun shot, I wouldn’t really call it “artistic” by any means, but it shows Christina and Jeremiah’s personalities.
We took just short of 200 photos in this 2.5 hour session, in at least 20 different locations and with dozens of poses. We hope Christina and Jeremiah enjoyed the shoot (and the photos) as much as we did!
