“Nothing Traditional or Posed” was my main instruction from Christina. I was able to slip in a few posed shots but all-in-all, this Las Vegas wedding ceremony and reception photography was candid and photojournalistic style.

This wedding and reception was held at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson (in the Las Vegas Valley). Christina was great to hang out with before the ceremony and VERY laid-back. After our introductions, the first thing she said was “here, have a glass of champagne”. I had to decline since champagne tends to effect me very quickly and I doubt any of my brides would want their photographer to be tipsy! :)

Of course, in blogs, photographers are expected to include creative shots – I did get Christina to do a couple poses:

I’ve posted a few of this style.. the “contemplative” shot. I just ask the Bride to think about her ceremony and her future husband and try to capture their immediate, natural reaction. As always, these shots are interpreted differently by different people…

The other day I was “spying” on some other wedding photographer blogs and realized I have never posted my “shoe shots”. Brides love those photos of their shoes!

Christina said she “used to” play piano but she did end up sitting down and playing a very nice piece. I wanted to incorporate the piano with her bouquet and thought this one captured my intentions:

Ok, first off I do have to say “Go Blue”, but Sarah and Aaron are AWESOME (even if they are OSU Fans)! Sarah looked stunning and after looking through over 450 “keeper” photos from this 4-hour reception, I don’t think there’s any photo where she isn’t absolutely glowing with joy.

Also, for those wondering why the big scarlet-colored frames around each photo? Well, of course that’s OSU’s color (and, for all of you really uptight fans, I used the actual web-safe hexadecimal #990000 color that OSU’s own website specifies)!

I’m not a big fan of “selective color” but I thought it worked well in this simple shot – with OSU’s Scarlet in the hearts:

Isn’t she beautiful?

Sarah is beautiful!

I captured about a dozen really great first-dance shots, it was hard choosing which one to post but this one was my personal favorite. Look at the emotion!

Jeremy from D. Jay’s Entertainment was the DJ and had people on the dance floor all night, he says it was with the help of his “super-duper disco light” but I think it was his great music choice and a fun group of people!

Having fun in Las Vegas Photo

As frequent readers of my blog know, Jeremy is also my husband, and a darn good photographer – he used my camera when someone asked me to use their point-and-shoot to take a picture for them… yes, that’s my head on the right – so now you have a “photo of the photographer”!

After a long night, Sarah was still smiling and looking at Aaron.

It was an absolute joy working with Sarah and Aaron. I hope you enjoyed this small sample of their photos!

I just had one of my favorite shoots ever. Victoria and Roy are simply amazing people. Plus, Victoria works at the University of Michigan (go Blue!). Would you believe this absolutely stunning bride is also tough? She’s military, with the ROTC at UofM!

Beautiful Wedding Photography

I met Victoria and Roy right after their ceremony at the Excalibur Wedding Chapel. Like all of the major Strip casino chapels, outside photography is not allowed… but Excalibur allows outside photography for about 15 minutes after the in-house photographer is done. I got a bunch of formals but those are boring for a blog so I decided to post a picture of a LAMBORGHINI!

Lamborghini Photo

Victoria and Roy actually walked up and asked the owner if we could take some pictures by his car (that’s him in the dark shirt in the background). Thanks!

When I first saw this photo on the camera screen, I knew exactly what I wanted to do to it… a bit of a vintage look with muted colors and darkened blacks. I think the special processing really made this photo stand out:

Classic Vegas Wedding Photo

After shooting around the Excalibur grounds, we were off in the limo for some photos. When I saw them getting ready to open the bottle of champagne, knowing they had lugged it around in 110 degree heat for an hour, I got my camera ready and hoped that I didn’t get soaked. This is the result:

Champaigne Explosion

We got a ton of the “Vegas Strip” type photos – they came out great but I wanted to show some more “fun” shots from the reception at Excalibur.

I was able to work with my husband, Jeremy from D. Jay’s Entertainment for the reception. He always helps me set up great pictures of people dancing, and is always careful to position the groom for a nice garter-removal photo. Of course, when brides and grooms are as animated as Victoria and Roy, it makes it easy to take a great photo of the action!

Fun Bride and Groom Photography Vegas

This was a smallish reception, about 40-50 people but MAN did they party. Not a drunken fest, but they danced all night. This group seemed to be on the dance floor the entire night, no matter what music was being played. Towards the end, I saw one of them using a bottle as a “microphone” so I grabbed a bunch more bottles and did some minor set-up for this shot:

Jeremy sat at the same table with these guests during dinner (we typically do not sit with guests during dinner but some of our clients invite us, and we don’t turn them down). He told me he knew from the first minute that this group would be the party group! I guess 19 years of wedding DJ experience gives you a 6th Sense, huh?

I really had a hard time choosing the last photo for this blog post. I got 3 really nice photos in this series… one where everyone is clapping with their hands in the air, one where Victoria and Roy are clapping and facing their guests… and this one – I think this really symbolizes the work that Jeremy does to make sure that every bride and groom feels SPECIAL. Look how Victoria is just GUSHING with excitement. Shouldn’t every bride feel this way?

Photography Las Vegas Wedding

It was great to work with Victoria and Roy, they are a special couple with great friends and great family. Congratulations!

I was so excited to be shooting in a big, open Catholic Church – all that natural light, beautiful colors, etc. While hotel chapels are very nice, there’s something to be said about a church wedding! Of course, most churches do not allow flash, so ceremonies can be challenging, too!

A shot I took about an hour before anyone got there – I always arrive early to new locations so I can test out camera settings and “scout” the area. This shot is from a tripod with a long exposure… and by the way, it’s been a while since I reminded my readers that they can click on any photo to see a larger version! Just use your browser’s “back” button to return to the blog):

Isn’t she an absolutely beautiful bride? She was just glowing with excitement!

Limousine Bride in Las Vegas

A photographer can look for years to find such a cute little girl in a perfect (non-posed) pose, a ribbon being tied on her head, with her head tilted, looking right at the camera – and I was lucky enough to capture this brief, non-posed moment. I made several versions of this photo, in color, in B/W, with a vignette… and I provided them all to Dennis and Jessica… but I personally liked this “dreamy” black and white version:

Vegas Bride\'s Daughter

On to the ceremony! I am really having a tough time picking out just a couple shots, but I knew this one had to be included in my blog:

As I scouted the location before the ceremony, I noticed how shiny the floor was and instantly had an idea. I couldn’t wait for when Jessica and Dennis kneeled so I could get this shot:

The First Kiss:

Las Vegas First Kiss

Remember that cutie in the stroller? Well, that’s Jessica and Dennis’ daughter, and just a second after the first kiss, she made her way up to mom and dad to give her congratulations. Dennis’ smile is priceless!

I did follow Jessica and Dennis to their reception at Excalibur, where they had also hired Jeremy (my husband and also a darn good photographer) from D. Jay’s Entertainment to be their DJ. Everyone had a blast, including Jessica. I couldn’t resist posting just one photo from the reception:

In closing, I wanted to thank Jessica and Dennis. I also thank Dennis, his dad, his groomsmen, and his fellow servicemen and women for their selfless service to our country. It was an honor to meet you.

It’s difficult to choose a D.J. in Las Vegas. I work with the DJs at D. Jay’s Entertainment on a regular basis and they ALWAYS put on a great show! They keep the party moving without seeming rushed and since we all work together so often, we know the format and what to expect next. That means no missed photos!

So if you are planning a Las Vegas Wedding and need a disc jockey, call D. Jay’s Entertainment and rest assured your disc jockey will do a GREAT job!
