Taking trips to Las Vegas must bring the romantic side out of guys… Joseph and Ashley came all the way from Canada and Joseph proposed to her in California, then they came to Vegas and hired us to do a photo shoot for them. Jeremy did the photos for this happy couple!

Once Jeremy arrived, Joseph had a great idea where they would kiss in the middle of The Strip while people were going by, and Jeremy would shoot with a very long shutter, which would make all the people blurry but J and A would be “stuck in a moment”. Well, this requires a tripod and we don’t carry a tripod for Strip Tours, so Jeremy worked on the photo in Photoshop. This one is still a work in progress…

And here’s a shot that Ashley inspired… it really is amazing that every time we shoot on The Strip, we find something new, or a new idea… I think this one will be used in future shoots, we really like it! And yes, we know it’s “backwards” - Jeremy wanted to show off the ring!

Jeremy came back from the shoot raving about how cool Joseph and Ashley were. They were so open to new ideas and really seemed to have fun!

We just got an email from them saying that they may be coming back to get married in Vegas - we can’t wait to work with them again!!

Here’s brand new photos of a Las Vegas Marriage Proposal!  This is SOOO cool and Diante is SOOOO romantic!  He called us a week or so ago and explained that he JUST decided to propose to his girlfriend - and he wanted me to take photos of the proposal!

I had made a post a while back about proposal photography which is a new trend.

Anyway, they came into Las Vegas on Saturday and I spent 1 hour with them.  Usually I’d follow the couple around using my telephoto lens (spy cam!) and then the propose-er would make a signal, I’d get closer and he (or she!) makes the proposal. Well, Diante went right to it… their limo arrived at Bellagio just before the water show, and just a few minutes later Diante was on one knee!

Pam and James are the perfect couple to go to the non-so-secret anymore location outside of Las Vegas. They LOVE old cars and the rustic look… and we had a pleasant surprise as well - the cactus were in full bloom!

Jeremy and I worked together on this one, with Jeremy doing almost all of the shooting while we both scouted for locations and did all the posing, etc.

We’ll start off with a more fun, non-posed photo, I guess Pam is gonna hook her a good one!

You probably remember seeing a very similar photo in a previous post - and I do try to be as creative/new as possible with each client - but if something “works”, then I say keep using it!

James was able to name off almost every single car (shell) there, down to the year, based on very tiny details. He used to own a street rod shop! We loved this one, that’s all probably original wood, but not original bullet holes!

We took Christina and Jeff about 45 minutes outside of Las Vegas to a location that used to be pretty “secret”, but now is becoming pretty popular with photographers. If you remember a couple months ago we got some cool off-camera lighting? Well it’s not really portable as in being able to carry/move it around constantly - but we decided to try it with Christina and Jeff. I think they thought it was pretty funny watching me carry the big flash with umbrella around for 1.5 hours!

What you will notice on this shoot is the interesting lighting effect - the flash was almost always off-center which gives the photos a different (and we think, better) look.

Jeremy did the actual shooting here, with both of us collaborating on poses and lighting. Christina and Jeff were GREAT, and a lot of fun. They were open to any fun stuff we threw at them, too!

We started out in the old barn, so some “vintage” type processing was a must… (don’t forget to click for larger version!)

Now I’m going to warn some of my more conservative/traditional readers that these next photos all have a LOT of processing. I think the processing is complimentary to the photos, but you’ll need to look at these with an “artistic” eye… OK?

Now I know that Christina and Jeff aren’t looking at each other on that one, so we continued the series of photos with these two… and if you look close, you can see the interesting lighting (note the shadows on the RIGHT side of everything? That’s because the flash was way off to the left.

Anyone who remembers the infamous “bobble head” photos - well this one isn’t quite as extreme but the effect is still pretty cool:

At this point, it’s getting pretty dark and usually we’d be done - but we had the high-powered flash so we kept on shooting. And we ended up with one of our most favorite photos of the evening (and by the way, the sky isn’t artificially colored - there’s some tweaking to the saturation and vividity but that’s it):

And now it was DARK… a 5 minute walk to the old plane “crash” site just to experiment with shadows and harsh lighting (on purpose). Not everyone would like this style but you have to admit it’s interesting!

Afterwards, Jeff and Christina agreed to let us REALLY experiment with something called “painting with light”. I’ll be blogging that sometime in the near future. In the meantime, we are really looking forward to shooting their wedding and reception in October!

Get a load of this amazing couple! I did a short (1-hour) engagement session photography with Jesse and Katy on Sunday. We did a “simple” shoot at another local park and in ONE hour, we got 111 unique photos! I am so lucky to be doing the wedding-day photography in May for this great couple, who are as nice as they are good looking!

Katy loves the “over-the-top” type processing - SO, for you brides looking at my samples, if you don’t like the processing then please don’t worry - I don’t have to process yours like this. But, I do pride myself in finding out what styles my brides like, and then customizing all the special processing to those preferences. And, as always, my brides get ALL versions of the photos so they can pick-and-choose!

These first 3 photos are very similar, but I wanted to show various processing that we do. I didn’t want to show the exact same photo but I wanted it to be a good comparison…

This one,  I LOVE… it’s a split-tone, with some custom adjustments and a texture overlay. There’s just so much FUN in this photo!

Katy loves the “selective color” process (where the photo is mostly black-and-white, but certain elements are left in color). You’ve all seen it - it’s typically the flowers or something like that… we didn’t have flowers so we tried this:

I got about 6 versions of this now-standard shot… and every one of them had some amount of “attitude” coming from the background. And by “attitude”, I mean it in a good way. This one is more of a “I’m waiting!” type look, and Jesse looked great in the foreground, too!

You could probably tell from the previous photos that Katy has some beautiful eyes… I did this close-up crop more for Jesse - he needs to print this as a wallet size and keep it with him at all times!
