I do a lot of the photography at the Texas Station Hotel/Casino Chapel and many times the bride and groom ask me (or one of my assistants) to cover the wedding reception as well. Melanie and Johnny also hired D. Jay’s Entertainment to DJ the event.
Here’s the happy couple after the ceremony, complete with skin re-touching to make them look their best:
Here’s an interesting tradition… a “dollar dance” or “money dance” with a bit of a twist. Money is stuck on this little girl and presented to the bride and groom. How cute! I did some “radial blur” on this photo to focus on the girl and to show action.
One thing I always try to do at my Vegas Weddings is get all of the guests in one big shot. This isn’t always possible since it’s hard to get everyone out of the reception area and find a place for a big group shot. But, this party was so good, people stayed to the very end (thanks to Jimmy who did a GREAT job keeping everyone dancing and having a good time). So I asked everyone to come out to the hallway for a group shot, probably the largest group shot I’ve done in a long time:
Thanks to Melanie and Johnny for letting me be a part of your Las Vegas Wedding and Reception!

I just had one of my favorite shoots ever. Victoria and Roy are simply amazing people. Plus, Victoria works at the University of Michigan (go Blue!). Would you believe this absolutely stunning bride is also tough? She’s military, with the ROTC at UofM!
I met Victoria and Roy right after their ceremony at the Excalibur Wedding Chapel. Like all of the major Strip casino chapels, outside photography is not allowed… but Excalibur allows outside photography for about 15 minutes after the in-house photographer is done. I got a bunch of formals but those are boring for a blog so I decided to post a picture of a LAMBORGHINI!
Victoria and Roy actually walked up and asked the owner if we could take some pictures by his car (that’s him in the dark shirt in the background). Thanks!
When I first saw this photo on the camera screen, I knew exactly what I wanted to do to it… a bit of a vintage look with muted colors and darkened blacks. I think the special processing really made this photo stand out:
After shooting around the Excalibur grounds, we were off in the limo for some photos. When I saw them getting ready to open the bottle of champagne, knowing they had lugged it around in 110 degree heat for an hour, I got my camera ready and hoped that I didn’t get soaked. This is the result:
We got a ton of the “Vegas Strip” type photos – they came out great but I wanted to show some more “fun” shots from the reception at Excalibur.
I was able to work with my husband, Jeremy from D. Jay’s Entertainment for the reception. He always helps me set up great pictures of people dancing, and is always careful to position the groom for a nice garter-removal photo. Of course, when brides and grooms are as animated as Victoria and Roy, it makes it easy to take a great photo of the action!
This was a smallish reception, about 40-50 people but MAN did they party. Not a drunken fest, but they danced all night. This group seemed to be on the dance floor the entire night, no matter what music was being played. Towards the end, I saw one of them using a bottle as a “microphone” so I grabbed a bunch more bottles and did some minor set-up for this shot:
Jeremy sat at the same table with these guests during dinner (we typically do not sit with guests during dinner but some of our clients invite us, and we don’t turn them down). He told me he knew from the first minute that this group would be the party group! I guess 19 years of wedding DJ experience gives you a 6th Sense, huh?
I really had a hard time choosing the last photo for this blog post. I got 3 really nice photos in this series… one where everyone is clapping with their hands in the air, one where Victoria and Roy are clapping and facing their guests… and this one – I think this really symbolizes the work that Jeremy does to make sure that every bride and groom feels SPECIAL. Look how Victoria is just GUSHING with excitement. Shouldn’t every bride feel this way?
It was great to work with Victoria and Roy, they are a special couple with great friends and great family. Congratulations!

I was so excited to be shooting in a big, open Catholic Church – all that natural light, beautiful colors, etc. While hotel chapels are very nice, there’s something to be said about a church wedding! Of course, most churches do not allow flash, so ceremonies can be challenging, too!
A shot I took about an hour before anyone got there – I always arrive early to new locations so I can test out camera settings and “scout” the area. This shot is from a tripod with a long exposure… and by the way, it’s been a while since I reminded my readers that they can click on any photo to see a larger version! Just use your browser’s “back” button to return to the blog):
Isn’t she an absolutely beautiful bride? She was just glowing with excitement!
A photographer can look for years to find such a cute little girl in a perfect (non-posed) pose, a ribbon being tied on her head, with her head tilted, looking right at the camera – and I was lucky enough to capture this brief, non-posed moment. I made several versions of this photo, in color, in B/W, with a vignette… and I provided them all to Dennis and Jessica… but I personally liked this “dreamy” black and white version:
On to the ceremony! I am really having a tough time picking out just a couple shots, but I knew this one had to be included in my blog:
As I scouted the location before the ceremony, I noticed how shiny the floor was and instantly had an idea. I couldn’t wait for when Jessica and Dennis kneeled so I could get this shot:
The First Kiss:
Remember that cutie in the stroller? Well, that’s Jessica and Dennis’ daughter, and just a second after the first kiss, she made her way up to mom and dad to give her congratulations. Dennis’ smile is priceless!
I did follow Jessica and Dennis to their reception at Excalibur, where they had also hired Jeremy (my husband and also a darn good photographer) from D. Jay’s Entertainment to be their DJ. Everyone had a blast, including Jessica. I couldn’t resist posting just one photo from the reception:
In closing, I wanted to thank Jessica and Dennis. I also thank Dennis, his dad, his groomsmen, and his fellow servicemen and women for their selfless service to our country. It was an honor to meet you.

I can’t say enough how neat this couple was. Yoko is beautiful and Sean is a big handsome man who is so much fun! As brides and grooms know, most chapels in Las Vegas have their own in-house photography so we do a lot of “reception-only” events. That’s fine by me, I get to hang out with our Disc Jockeys and take great photos of all the guests, plus I am able to do some more posed shots too!
Dad was SO proud and Yoko was just glowing!
The cakes at The Wynn are always amazing. Plus their in-house lighting makes taking pictures easy!
Tastes as good as it looks!
A cute shot of Sean as he leads Yoko through the “Tunnel Of Love” that our DJ set up with the rest of the guests. What fun!
Sean could really “bust-a-move” and his guests had a blast on the dance floor!
Overall it was a great party with a great couple who were both very photogenic. We ended up providing them with over 260 unique photos during a 4-hour reception!
