April 28th, 2009EngagementsHere’s brand new photos of a Las Vegas Marriage Proposal! This is SOOO cool and Diante is SOOOO romantic! He called us a week or so ago and explained that he JUST decided to propose to his girlfriend - and he wanted me to take photos of the proposal!
I had made a post a while back about proposal photography which is a new trend.
Anyway, they came into Las Vegas on Saturday and I spent 1 hour with them. Usually I’d follow the couple around using my telephoto lens (spy cam!) and then the propose-er would make a signal, I’d get closer and he (or she!) makes the proposal. Well, Diante went right to it… their limo arrived at Bellagio just before the water show, and just a few minutes later Diante was on one knee!
Here’s a series of photos taken in the 30 or so seconds before, during and following the proposal - you think she was surprised? (click on the photos for larger version!)
After, we took a Strip Tour in the limo and got some nice posed shots… Tasha is SOOO happy!
LOVE this pic of Diante!
And aren’t they CUTE together!?!
Got a bunch of shots at the Las Vegas Sign, this is one of my faves…
CONGRATULATIONS to Diante and Tasha! Keep me updated on your wedding plans, and don’t forget, the photography cost for THIS session can become a credit towards your wedding-day photograhy, and I DO travel to California!

I am a recommended Venetian photographer for wedding receptions and had the absolute pleasure of working with Ryan and Natasha just last weekend… they are both “Michiganders” (as I am, originally). They are also “car people” (like Jeremy and me) and we really got along! And, we all like to talk - Natasha and I spent close to an hour on the phone one day, just talking about whatever…
So they hired me to shoot their reception, so there are a TON of dancing pics and “candids” in their photo set - but nobody wants to see all those on a blog! I don’t even think they expected any creative photography but I grabbed them in the hallway for a few minutes and got quite a few posed/creative shots…
One quick note as I always say - we do a lot of creative processing on our photos and we realize not everyone likes every special processing look - so of course my brides get BOTH versions. Also, I just got a new set of really cool effects so I’m a little effect-crazy today!
Almost forgot, before they got to the Venetian for the reception, I took some shots of the decor, etc. Here’s one example of their tables:
And, the cake…
Here’s Ryan and Natasha during their Grand Entrance… LOVE the expressions… Ryan has that “cat-that-just-got-the-bird” look, and Natasha LOOVES him!
The first dance…
Cake-cutting…
Technically these were taken before the reception…
Highly-saturated and high contrast effect on the ring/flowers photo…
Congrats guys!

April 22nd, 2009BraggingHappy Earth Day! I wanted to take a quick moment to let you know what I am doing to stay “Green”.
- I shoot in Digital - No Film, No Negatives, No developing chemicals
- All of my packages include a DVD-Rom of all images
- My packages don’t include a lot of prints, and my clients can take prints out of their packages and save money
- My sales literature is all in PDF form and is emailed instead of printed and mailed
- My cameras use rechargeable batteries
- I invested over $600 into rechargeable power packs for my flashes instead of going thru 12-16 AA batteries per event.
- In my office, we use very little A/C - temp is set at 82 in the summer and we shut off the system when we’re not there.
- Our main lighting in the office is fluorescent and we are making a switch-over to LED lighting on the spotlights that shine on our demo photos.
- I don’t print “proofs”, all proofing is done online or in the office on the computer screen.
- All of my booking Agreements are emailed in PDF form instead of printed and mailed.
- I limit my paper use - my average booking uses only 2 to 5 pieces of paper.
- I shred paper waste and properly dispose and/or recycle.
Yes, I’m sure I could do more - and I am always looking for ways to get “Greener”. If you have any suggestions then feel free to post a comment!

April 21st, 2009UncategorizedPam and James are the perfect couple to go to the non-so-secret anymore location outside of Las Vegas. They LOVE old cars and the rustic look… and we had a pleasant surprise as well - the cactus were in full bloom!
Jeremy and I worked together on this one, with Jeremy doing almost all of the shooting while we both scouted for locations and did all the posing, etc.
We’ll start off with a more fun, non-posed photo, I guess Pam is gonna hook her a good one!
I know this isn’t really a lovey engagement-photo type photo, but the natural light was really nice and the “feel” was there.
With their love of old cars, this was a given:
A little spy-photo goin’ on!
You probably remember seeing a very similar photo in a previous post - and I do try to be as creative/new as possible with each client - but if something “works”, then I say keep using it!
James was able to name off almost every single car (shell) there, down to the year, based on very tiny details. He used to own a street rod shop! We loved this one, that’s all probably original wood, but not original bullet holes!
Wanted to focus on the beautiful cactii (?) in bloom…
Speaking of flowers and cars… we got a HUGE compliment from Pam and James… there’s a few photos that are NOT of them, that they are going to frame to hang in their house/garage. This is one that Pam is going to mat and frame:
And here’s one that she’s going to do for James to put in his garage (I am picturing a pretty cool garage since that’s where he works on his work/hobby)…
Here’s another one…
We can’t wait for Pam and James’ wedding coming up in August!

April 21st, 2009Strip Photography Tour, WeddingsI’ve done wedding photos at Little Church of the West several times. They are really nice over there, since they do let “outside” photographers into their Chapel (that’s not the norm in Las Vegas). There are some restrictions but we work within those and get some nice shots.
For this shoot, I decided to treat Jim and Nikki (an AWESOME couple that came all the way from England!) to a “theme”. Since the Little Church has been around since the 1940’s, and in “Las Vegas History” that’s almost the “Old West” times - I decided to process the photos with a very “Old West” theme. Yes of course they get the “regular” ones too, but I thought it would be cool to do this theme.
Here’s a few from the series, don’t forget to click for the larger size and to see the details like the film grain, etc.:
Obviously I didn’t do ALL of the photos in that style… Nikki is a beautiful red-head with amazing blue eyes so I had to do at least one shot that really showed off those features:
And here’s the two of them on the grounds of the Chapel:
Then we hopped in the limo for a Strip Tour. Jim had this cool hat and I had an idea… old Vegas “Sinatra Style”! I found some old pics of Sinatra and they had this highly-saturated, greenish-tint (sort of a Lomo look) so I emulated that for this photo.
And that was all good until Jeremy took it a step further in post-processing. The Zumanity sign really detracted from the photo, and he wanted more of the early 1940’s Sinatra look (since that’s when he first played Vegas). So he did a simple Antique look, and added a lot of film grain… but he also did something else… look closely!
Anyway, we thought it was fun!
Then it was off to the Venetian for a bunch of photos. I really liked this one.
And finally, whenever there’s something that is special to my bride and groom, I always try to get some photos (obviously!). Rings, of course.. but for this one there were cuff-links. These were given to Jim by his grandfather (posthumously) specifically to wear at his wedding.
I have to say, I really enjoy working with ALL brides, but for some reason the ones that come from Europe are especially fun. Jim and Nikki were no exception - I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them and their entourage. And I know the feeling is mutual because of the great email that they sent after seeing their proofs! Thanks guys, and congratulations!
