As I mentioned a while back, my company is the in-house wedding photography company for Texas Station’s chapel here in Las Vegas. I shoot there whenever I can, but I usually am working with my clients that have all-day packages and one of my assistants shoots these events.
Texas Station clients typically are 15 to 20 minutes of photos of the bride and groom prior to the ceremony, an 8 to 10-minute ceremony and 20 minutes for formals. Even so, I believe we offer MUCH more than the typical “chapel” wedding photographer. We don’t limit poses or number of photos taken. We don’t hard-sell an $800 disc-of-images or 8×10 prints for $100. We don’t do cookie-cutter pictures with every bride (of course we do the standards but we also try to do more creative stuff). We even get photos of the signing of the marriage license. And, we do our trademark “special processing” to them, too!
Anyway, I did end up working with Heather and Darren, and I am so glad I did! They are such a cute couple, and SO FUN! This blog is a bit atypical – you’re going to see some “blooper” type photos, but really what you’ll see are Heather and Darren being relaxed.
Before I show the fun stuff, I did want to post two pre-ceremony photos… they have a cool mirror where we always get some nice creative photos:
The little flowergirl was VERY shy of the camera, but I got this precious photo:
The ringbearer, on the other hand, was NOT shy… what a ham!
These next three photos prove that minor “mistakes” can happen at a wedding ceremony but if you just go with the flow, everything will be fine! Remember, the most important part of your wedding day is saying two words: “I Do.” Anything after that is icing on the cake!
It happens: Flowergirl won’t walk down the aisle! So, pick her up, and drop the flowers yourself!
Heather was tearing up a bit, so she grabbed the first thing she could – her brother’s handkerchief! Don’t worry, it’s a rental!
They did a unity candle, and after they lit the center candle the officiant said, “The outer candles stay lit…” just as they both BLEW THEM OUT! This got a HUGE laugh from everyone, and Heather and Darrin took it in stride – relighting their candles.
Here’s two photos from the “formals”. Ok, so the first one isn’t typical.. but the 2nd one is!
Heather asked if I could stay for a few hours at the reception so we worked everything out and I stuck around. Got another 450+ shots at the reception, and here’s three that really reflect the fun of the evening:
Thanks guys! Had a blast and hope you did too!

Wow, that was QUICK! Will and Cherry are already married! Seems like just yesterday we did their engagement/family session photos!
Will and Cherry were married at the Chapel at Nellis AFB just a couple days ago, in a beautiful ceremony that included the color guard and everything! Those photos are coming up, but I haven’t posted any “details” pictures for a while so I thought I’d post a couple.
Look at the amazing details on the back of this dress! And, for the new readers, make sure you click on the picture for a larger version!
Red was the theme for the day (Cherry Red?)
Cherry and her dad walking through the guard…
The ring exchange, I just love her expression here… it says A LOT!
After the ceremony, the traditional stop-and-kiss before being allowed to move past…
Jeremy was doing a little 2nd shooting for me, and got this cute-as-heck photo… just look at the question mark on his face!
Yes, I do formals! They are a bit boring and plain, but necessary! What’s funny is that since we did the engagement session, when we said, “Ok, Will head tilt, angled shoulders…” he’d do it perfectly!
Cherry, you found a winner who listens, too!
Then it was off to the golf course where we got close to 200 shots in about half-an-hour! Jeremy and I were both clicking away… he took the groomsmen and I took the bridesmaids. Jeremy says he just told the groomsmen to “pimp it up” and this is what he got:
Then we brought them together:
In case you are wondering, yes we did the standard “V-Pose” formal poses for the wedding party – but who really wants to see those?!?
Now for some creative couples-shots. Here’s a pretty typical photo, with “touch of color” (or “black-and-color”). Even though it’s a fairly stock photograph, I thought it came out really nice!
Here’s a great example of why a 2nd shooter is a very worthwhile addition to a photography package – I got a lot of photos from the “typical” angle for this pose, but Jeremy got this one – a non-typical angle that really works!
So here’s one of our very faves – it really hurt to take out the bright red, but for this one, the black-and-white really adds to the feel. We also added some “film grain” for that classic look:
At the reception, we found out that Will and Cherry used our engagement session photos for their table numbers… how cool is that?
Yeah, I know – another “typical” photo. Please keep in mind that of course we take the “standard” pictures! I’ve had a few brides asking lately, “Ok, so your photos are very creative but what about the required/standard pictures?”… well, here’s one!
And, a huge group photo, told them to “do something crazy” for this one…
Jeremy and I got a bit over 1100 photos at this wedding - but more than that, we had an amazing time. Will and Cherry and their kids and family are AWESOME people and we were honored to be a part of their day!

Get a load of this amazing couple! I did a short (1-hour) engagement session photography with Jesse and Katy on Sunday. We did a “simple” shoot at another local park and in ONE hour, we got 111 unique photos! I am so lucky to be doing the wedding-day photography in May for this great couple, who are as nice as they are good looking!
Katy loves the “over-the-top” type processing – SO, for you brides looking at my samples, if you don’t like the processing then please don’t worry – I don’t have to process yours like this. But, I do pride myself in finding out what styles my brides like, and then customizing all the special processing to those preferences. And, as always, my brides get ALL versions of the photos so they can pick-and-choose!
These first 3 photos are very similar, but I wanted to show various processing that we do. I didn’t want to show the exact same photo but I wanted it to be a good comparison…
This one, I LOVE… it’s a split-tone, with some custom adjustments and a texture overlay. There’s just so much FUN in this photo!
Kind of similar to the first photo, but I think it captures a lot more of the “love” emotion…
Same processing on the following 2 photos… these two could be considered “over the top” so again, don’t worry if you don’t like the processing, all my brides get both versions of the photos!
Katy loves the “selective color” process (where the photo is mostly black-and-white, but certain elements are left in color). You’ve all seen it – it’s typically the flowers or something like that… we didn’t have flowers so we tried this:
I got about 6 versions of this now-standard shot… and every one of them had some amount of “attitude” coming from the background. And by “attitude”, I mean it in a good way. This one is more of a “I’m waiting!” type look, and Jesse looked great in the foreground, too!
You could probably tell from the previous photos that Katy has some beautiful eyes… I did this close-up crop more for Jesse – he needs to print this as a wallet size and keep it with him at all times!
Thanks guys, you are GREAT! My brain is already in high gear thinking about creative shots for your wedding day!

Back in early January, I submitted 2 photos to a photo contest at Sahara Camera Center here in Las Vegas. The theme was “Tis The Season”. It took a while, but I found out a couple days ago that my photo was chosen as the winner! I won a nice (small) camera bag, which will come in handy for those Engagement Sessions where I don’t need to take ALL of my various equipment.
See, not ALL my work is Wedding Photography, although being a Wedding Photographer is my passion!
Here’s the photo that won the contest. It’s my nephew, and was not posed at all (well, the photo in the thought bubble was posed, but not the reaction to the present) – Click photo for larger version!
