“Nothing Traditional or Posed” was my main instruction from Christina. I was able to slip in a few posed shots but all-in-all, this Las Vegas wedding ceremony and reception photography was candid and photojournalistic style.

This wedding and reception was held at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson (in the Las Vegas Valley). Christina was great to hang out with before the ceremony and VERY laid-back. After our introductions, the first thing she said was “here, have a glass of champagne”. I had to decline since champagne tends to effect me very quickly and I doubt any of my brides would want their photographer to be tipsy! :)

Of course, in blogs, photographers are expected to include creative shots – I did get Christina to do a couple poses:

I’ve posted a few of this style.. the “contemplative” shot. I just ask the Bride to think about her ceremony and her future husband and try to capture their immediate, natural reaction. As always, these shots are interpreted differently by different people…

The other day I was “spying” on some other wedding photographer blogs and realized I have never posted my “shoe shots”. Brides love those photos of their shoes!

Christina said she “used to” play piano but she did end up sitting down and playing a very nice piece. I wanted to incorporate the piano with her bouquet and thought this one captured my intentions:

I’ve been so lucky lately to have beautiful brides and handsome grooms… and a very fun, photogenic wedding party too!

Marnie and Jorge are a SUPER couple from not-too-far from where I grew up (a couple hour drive) so they had that cool “Midwest” attitude; relaxed and laid-back.

For this one, I was also very lucky to have about 1.5 hours PRIOR to the ceremony, so I was able to be more creative with the group shots. For any brides considering hiring me, I strongly recommend to consider extra time prior to the ceremony, especially if you have a nice area for photos. This also helps you get to your reception sooner, and with the typical Las Vegas Wedding Reception being only 4 hours long, this is important.

Another option is to have me bring one of my great assistants, who can be with the Groom while I’m with the Bride, and then the Assistant Photographer can help set up all the formal shots after the ceremony. For this one, it was just me, but I had plenty of time!

Here’s a great shot of Marnie and her wedding party… aren’t the dresses amazing?!??

Typically, with limited time prior to the ceremony, the priority is photos of the bride – but I had time for some really creative poses with the groomsmen!

This one has some extra Photoshop “trickery” that we call “selective focus”. It’s pretty time-consuming but creates a very interesting effect of a very pronounced “pop”, almost a 3-D effect. You’ll want to click this one to see the larger version.

Yeah they were good looking guys, but let’s get back to our beautiful bride! I know I posted a similar shot of Cristina not too long ago, but I do consider this a “signature” shot and this one just had so much great color that I had to post it!

Las Vegas Bridal Photography

This one was one of the last ones I took before the ceremony, Marnie was so relaxed and calm, I think this photo really captured her emotions!

Now for after the ceremony.. there’s a funny story behind this shot – In our consultation, one shot that Jorge considered a “must have” was something similar to a photo he saw in my demo gallery where the veil was flowing behind the bride. Luckily, it was windy that day (well, at least on-and-off, right Marnie?); it only took a dozen-or-so attempts over the course of 3 hours to get this one. If you are wondering, nobody was holding the veil (during the shot), that was 100% wind and it took a while to get this veil just right – I’m personally not 100% satisfied with the pose (my fault, I needed to tell Marnie to keep the bouquet a bit lower) – but that’s probably my picky side showing!

Ok, one last one – a fairly common shot, I just liked it and hope that Marnie and Jorge do, too!

I truly enjoyed working with Marnie and Jorge – their patience seemed to have no limitations… they had some trying times before (and a little bit during and after) the wedding… jury duty a week prior… food poisoning the day she arrived in Vegas… and some issues with lights (and security guards) at the reception location – but they never stopped smiling and were really “into” each other – and very easy to photograph!

I recently shot a very challenging Vegas wedding ceremony at the Little Church of the West. First, I want to say this chapel is very beautiful and has a lot of history, I would recommend it to a bride looking for a “rustic” type wedding in Las Vegas.

That said, as with almost all Chapels, they are restrictive on outside photographers. The good thing is they DO allow the bride and groom to hire an outside photographer (most don’t allow it at all)… the bad thing is the photographer cannot stand up and must shoot from their seat. So, varying angles and the “best shot” isn’t always possible.

Rodlyn and Alex were OK with this and knew the restrictions. I am proud to say that I was able to capture some pretty good shots of the ceremony, given the situation.

This is pretty much the angle I had during the ceremony so there’s no reason to blog a ton of photos, but the ring shot came out pretty nice:

I got a little creative/artistic with some close-ups and processing, I tried a reverse-vignette on this one (honestly I’m not 100% sure the reverse vignette “works” so I of course will provide 2 versions to Rodlyn and Alex… feel free to click on the Comment link below and let me know what YOU think!

After the ceremony (and a few nice first-kiss shots), I rushed outside to get their exit, and was able to capture this nice one:

We had some time to do some posed shots outside, here’s one of my personal faves…

Then, it was off to the Luxor Buffet where they had reserved a private room and a cake. I was very impressed with the cake, and since I haven’t posted a cake photo since March, I figured I’d show it to my blog readers!

This shot, I know Alex isn’t smiling but I really love the implied emotion, the contemplating, the quiet moment after the ceremony…

I enjoyed shooting with Rodlyn and Alex, and welcome “challenging” shoots such as the one at Little Church of the West. Thanks guys! :)

I absolutely LOVE Lorin over at the Hampton Inn on Tropicana (the Southwest Event Center). I feel comfortable saying I am highly recommended by her, and I know I highly recommend her venue.

This is a great near-strip venue for both locals and destination brides. I cannot say enough how well-run this place is, down to every detail. The entire staff is great, the food is wonderful and receptions always are a blast there!

D. Jay’s Entertainment provides Disc Jockey/MC services to many events there, and either one of my assistants or I do the photography.

Lorin asked me to provide some photos for their website, and I was happy to oblige. These are from an event back in August; I took some shots specifically for their use… and made one of my new Flash videos for them, too!

I decided to do one more Flash photo montage, this one is for Cristina and Jason‘s wedding and for all their friends and family all over the world. Cristina emailed me and was SO excited to show her wedding photos to all her family who couldn’t make it to Las Vegas for the Wedding so I thought I’d put 60 or so photos to a montage as a “little extra” for her.

I like this one because it shows highlights of the entire wedding day, and it’s set to their first dance song. Plus, it shows some of the great surroundings at the JW Marriott Las Vegas that I wasn’t able to post in my original blog post (scroll down 2 or 3 posts to see that one)!
